In my Junior high middle school literature class, students are currently creating interactive notebooks to strengthen their non fiction text skills. These interactive notebooks are providing my students with a foundation to organizing their thoughts and developing study skills naturally. Creativity and multi-sensory activities are built into the production of the notebooks which allows different types of learners to benefit from the note taking process. Students are allowed to use colored pencils which brings the work to life and really helps my visual learners. By creating the interactive notebooks, they are taking ownership in their work. This ownership leads to the most interactive part. Students are not only taking notes and practicing skills, but they are creating a resource they can use throughout the year. The continued exposure to the material is building a better understanding of the targeted skills.
